Hydra-Pneumatic Cylinders From HyperCyl

Our HyperCyl® line encompasses a broad selection of hydra-pneumatic cylinders, varying in design, operation, and performance to suit the specific needs of different assembly and forming applications.

HPI Series

HPI Series

Our HPI series inline cylinders serve as self-contained, cost-effective sources of power in piercing, clinching, assembly, insertion and forming applications. They have a simple design that uses only two pneumatic valves for operation, which helps minimize their footprint and overall cost. They are available in sizes ranging from 1 to 200 tons with total stroke lengths up to 16 inches and power stroke lengths up to 2 inches (depending on force required).
Key advantages of our HPI series cylinders include:

  • They are single-component system without hydraulic hoses.
  • They are the quickest of our cylinder products in terms of cycle rate for approach then power stroke.
  • They are linear transducer and load cell compatible, otherwise known as IntelliCyl®.

HPS Series

Cylinders

Our HPS series satellite cylinders are self-contained and cost-effective power sources and provide our most flexible offering regarding total stroke, power stroke, and tonnage. They have a compact design that makes them ideal for use where space is limited or strokes are long. Additionally, they allow the working cylinder to be located up to 10 feet away from the booster/reservoir and both components can be mounted in any position or attitude.
Key advantages of our HPS series cylinders include:

  • They have the most customization options (size, stroke, rod end, mounting configuration).
    • They come in sizes ranging from 1 to 200 tons.
    • They are available with a wide range of stroke lengths (for standard designs: total stroke up to 8 inches, power stroke up to 1 inch; for custom designs: total stroke up to 28 inches, power stroke up to 6 inches).
    • They enable multiple satellites to work from one booster.
    • They have customized configurations to meet any application need.
    • They accommodate multiple mounting configurations.
    • They enable the power stroke to initiate anywhere in the total stroke.

HPT Series

HPS (Tandem, minimal profile)

Our HPT series tandem cylinders are totally self-contained and cost-effective power sources. They are ideal for use in assembly and forming applications where space is limited. They are available in sizes ranging from 1 to 10 tons with total stroke lengths up to 8 inches and power stroke lengths up to 1 inch.
Key advantages of our HPT series cylinders include:

  • They are single-component systems, without the need for hydraulic hose.
  • They are linear transducer and load cell compatible, otherwise known as IntelliCyl®.
  • They offer more customization options than our HPI Series, including special strokes and rod ends.
  • They are shorter in length than our HPI series cylinders.

HZ Series

HZ Series

Our HZ series high-speed cylinders are totally self-contained and cost-effective power sources suitable for use in applications where short strokes and high speeds/forces are critical. They come in sizes ranging from 1 to 30 tons with standard power stroke lengths up to 1 inch. Custom power stroke lengths are also available.
Key advantages of our HZ series cylinders include:

  • They are single-component systems.
  • They use a single valve for operation, simplifying controls.
  • They are the fastest of our cylinders.
  • They can be mounted in any orientation or attitude.
  • They are linear transducer and load cell compatible, otherwise known as IntelliCyl®.

HZS Series

Pneumo-Hydraulic actuator

Our HZS series cylinders are perfect for applications that require short strokes and high speeds/forces. They also have a low profile satellite which makes them suitable for situations where space is limited.
Key advantages of our HZS series cylinders include:

  • They accommodate multiple mounting configurations.
  • They enable multiple satellites to work from one booster.
  • They come with a broad range of power stroke lengths.
  • They are available with specialized rod ends.

HPX Series

HPX Series

Our HPX series cylinders offer our longest Total and Power Stroke series in a smaller package compared to traditional HPS units. These self-contained systems do not need external reservoirs.
Key advantages of our HPX series cylinders include:

  • They accommodate multiple mounting configurations.
  • They offer the widest selection of strokes.
  • They have the shortest and lightest work sections.
  • They enable multiple work sections to work from one booster.
  • They allow the power stroke to initiate anywhere within the total stroke.
  • They are available with custom strokes and rod ends.

IntelliCyl® Series

IntelliCyl® Series

Our IntelliCyl series combines our hydra-pneumatic cylinder systems with advanced electronic technology. The line was designed for continuous monitoring of materials and processes. The two options available are an integrated low-voltage linear transducer (LVLT) and Load Cell (LC) installed on the end of the cylinder rod. Both use an analog card to provide analog feedback to the programmable logic controller (PLC) standard, with I/O-Link connectivity an option on the LVLT.
Key advantages of our IntelliCyl series include:

  • They improve quality with in-process verification.
  • They can connect to a HyperView-Press® that verifies dimensional stack-ups before work and monitors the processes during work, including part history, trending, and many other Quality-Centric data fields required on most applications.
  • They can eliminate the need for costly EOL and destructive testing.
  • They can increase the quality of assemblies and decrease the number of deviations.
  • They Quality Control the part while making the part, therefore reducing the number of check fixtures needed.
  • They facilitate traceability with long-term data collection.

HPC Booster

HPC Booster

Our high-pressure clamp (HPC) boosters have an air-operated design with a single four-way valve and SAE O-ring “no leak” connection. They are designed for single-acting clamps and lifter rails and can be used to operate multiple clamps or lifters. These units can be engineered to suit different specifications. They can accommodate up to 5,000 psi (hydraulic) at 100 psi inlet.

What Are Hydra-Pneumatic Cylinders?

Hydra-pneumatic cylinders—also referred to as hydro-pneumatic cylinders, air-over-oil cylinders, and intensifier cylinders—combine the power of a hydraulic cylinder with the speed and precision of a pneumatic cylinder. The resultant mixture of force and control makes hydra-pneumatic cylinders ideal for various industrial applications, including punching, riveting, bending, and forming.

These mechanical devices work by compressing oil to produce high output force linear motion. First, they function like pneumatic cylinders, extending and retracting in response to the input of compressed air. Then, a second pneumatically controlled cylinder section seals off the oil section to intensify the internal pressure. Since oil is considered incompressible, the intensified oil pressure enables the piston to produce stronger output forces within our sealed design construct.

Unlike hydraulic cylinders, hydra-pneumatic cylinders do not require specialized hydraulic components and fluid, which makes them easier to maintain and repair. Compared to pneumatic cylinders, they offer higher output forces within a smaller profile and footprint, making them better suited for heavy-load applications. As a result, they are more energy-efficient than solely pneumatic or hydraulic units.
